Kansas Church of God

Foundation of the Church of God in Kansas, Inc.
The purpose of the Foundation of the Church of God in Kansas, Inc. is to provide a financial base to under-gird the ministry of the Church of God in Kansas and the Oklahoma Panhandle. All funds coming to the Foundation, unless otherwise designated at the time of the gift, become part of the permanent assets of the Foundation. The income generated on these assets is annually made available to support the various ministries of the state organization.

The growth of the Foundation has been healthy the past few years.  In 2005 the assets increased about 28%, in 2006 10%, and in the first seven months of 2007 14%.  This is quite respectable and it will continue to enable the Foundation to support and expand ever-increasing avenues of ministry. Currently the Foundation has six fund designations, which in turn support six specific areas of ministry.

·     About 31% of the Foundation’s assets have been designated to support the General Budget of the Church of God in Kansas.  While the income on these funds can be used for any Budget item the majority is used to subsidize our annual Youth Camps.

·      A little over 38% of the assets belong to the Board of Evangelism.  Again the income can be used for any Board of Evangelism project but the majority is used for church planting. Currently the Board is supporting two church plants, Mosaic Community Church in Wichita and Iglesia de Dios in Liberal.

·      About 5% belongs to the Edna Thimes Scholarship fund of the Women of the Church of God.

·     Roughly 2% is designated for Pastoral Assistance. These funds are made available to the Credentials and Advisory Committee to assist any pastoral family that may have a special need.

·     Another 2% is designated for Anderson Ministries.  This income is sent to the National Budget annually.

·     Lastly we have close to 21% that is undesignated.  This income must be used for the ministry of the Church of God in Kansas.  It can be directed toward any of these funds or any other ministry under the umbrella of State Ministries.

·     If you’re counting that adds up to only 99%.  We are also holding about 1% that is income that has been made available to the Leadership Council but has been left with the Foundation for a future special need or emergency.  In the meantime these funds are continuing to generate income for ministry.

The Foundation is agreeable to additional designations, however they do reserve the right to refuse a designation they believe may be to restrictive or outside their area of support. We would encourage you to contact the Foundation before making a gift with any new designation.  Any gift not designated becomes part of the undesignated fund.

How can you be involved?  The first thing to keep in mind is, you do not have to be wealthy to make a difference.  The majority of the individual gifts that have come to the Foundation have come from people of ordinary means who wanted express their extra-ordinary love for the church. The largest individual gift we have received came from the estate of a city employee who lived very modestly, but loved his church generously.

Cash:
The most popular way to make a gift to the Foundation is cash.  As the Church of God in Kansas is a 501-( c )-3 organization your gift to the Foundation is always tax-deductible.  But more importantly for most of us you know your gift will be supporting ministry for years and years to come.

Stock or Real Estate:
Gifts of appreciated property, such as Stock or Real Estate can be one of the most advantageous and easiest gifts to make.  You may deduct the full fair market value as a charitable contribution, while bypassing applicable capital gains tax if you have owned the property more than one year.

Life Insurance:
Life Insurance is another special gift option, and can be donated in two ways: either by naming the Foundation as the beneficiary of a policy or as the sole owner and beneficiary.  The first option does not qualify for an income tax benefit, but if you name the Foundation as the sole owner and beneficiary, tax benefits are available.

Deferred Gifts:
Deferred Gifts, or planned gifts, are gifts that you designate now, but that go to the Foundation, or other charity, at a future time.  The simplest of these is a gift through your estate, known as a “charitable bequest.” This type gift can offset potential future federal estate tax liability and offers you the peace of mind that comes with knowing your charitable wishes will be carried out.

There are many other types of differed gifts and various annuities, etc. that can offer considerable current and future benefits.  These gift arrangements can be structured to fit your individual circumstances and objectives. The Foundation can work with any of these arrangements in cooperation with your tax professional.

The Board of Trustees of the Foundation is ratified by the General Assembly and operates in accordance with adopted by-laws directing the affairs of the Foundation.  Your Board of Trustees are:
